Résultat partiel des études ADN, sur une population de 248 chats

From Lyons Feline Genetics Laboratory
University of California, Davis

Résultats envoyés le 02 janvier 2012

"Overall summary:

1) Results from the previous two studies are upheld and consistent.

2) Turkish Angora is a distinct breed and with significant contribution from Turkish random bred cats. The Turkish Angora breed   contains the most representative cats of Turkey.

3) Turkish Vans are a distinct breed and show significantly less influence from Turkish random bred cats.

4) Cyprus cats are a distinct population within the Mediterranean.

5) Some limited migration of cats occurs between Cyprus and Turkey.

6) Type B, C and D cats from Round 2 were cats from Cyprus.

7) The Turkish Van is genetically similar to the four cats submitted as Vankedisi.

Because Group 1 was a mixture of Turkish random bred cats and Turkish Angoras and Group 3 listed as Aphrodite and Cyprus cats, these two groups were analyzed to determine if internal population groupings could be identified.

No sub-groupings were identified.

Recommendations:

1) A breed from Cyprus could be developed

2) Turkish Angoras should continue current breeding practices. The cats are diverse and show their historical heritage to Turkey. Importations of cats from Turkey should continue.

3) Turkish Van should continue to import cats from the Van Lake region - the same origin of the submitted Vankedisi cats. However, a more in depth genetic analysis may be required of the Van Lake region cats as representation was limited."
